28:54 Converts from the people of the book get twice the reward

1 min read

Twice will they be given their reward, for that they have persevered, that they avert Evil with Good, and that they spend (in charity) out of what We have given them.

This passage describes the way in which a righteous Jew and Christian will behave both before and after they have accepted Islam.  They were the best example of their religion before and will be the best example of a Muslim later.  Their reward is twice what others will get, for they believed in two messages from God.  The Prophet said, “There are three types of people who will be given their reward twice: a person from among the Followers of Earlier Revelation who believed in his prophet and then believed in me; a servant who performs his duty well towards God and for whomever he works; and a man who has a maidservant and then educates her, teaches her refined manners, frees her and then marries her.”  (Bukhari)
